John-Mark Turns 30!

Our John-Mark turned 30 this past month. His wish was to have a nice surf day at Trestles Beach in San Clemente and a little picnic lunch.  The waves were great, the wind was cool and the temperature was just right. Later we went to my sister's house for a Mexican dinner with the family. John-Mark's mom was able to come down for the day which was an added treat for him.

Some serious baking going on.

Chocolate Fudge Cake for Pop
Uncle Ronnie coaches Gabriella as she adds the candles.
(Insistently, the cake was still warm and caused the candles to melt in the cake. Something we had to pick out of our slices. No biggie)

Gabriella has waited months and months to call John-Mark "Johann" (John-Mark's German nickname). For some reason she thought it was a funny sounding name and would not say it when asked. She said "Papa, I will say "that word" on your birthday." She's a woman of her word because when John-Mark turned 30 Gabriella sang "Happy Birthday dear Johann". Music to John-Mark's ears.
