October 31st was a different kind of Halloween this year. Last year we enjoyed our annual neighborhood Halloween Soup and Salad Party. It didn't happen this year for various reasons. Maybe next year we will do that again. This year we spent our Halloween night doing lots of random things...the most exciting was that John-Mark and Gabriella made their first apple pie.
I have to preface, this was not an easy feat....and I'm not just talking about the crust. John-Mark and I were at odds all day. Ever have one of those days with your beloved? Everything set us off. I said it wrong, he took it wrong, he did it wrong, I let him know it. Wah, wah, wah. At the dinner table after a day of tiffs Gabriella looked at us and said "You guys have been at each other all day!" She was right. We were wrong. We needed to apologize to our darling daughter for our behavior. We did. Pretty awesome when your 4 year old calls you on your sin. Eventually honey bunch and I made up and did not let the sun go down on our wrath.
Ever seen one of theses Pampered Chef contraptions. Thank you Janna for letting us borrow. This thing did everything to the apple but eat it.
Gabriella and Papa made this Alton Brown Pie Crust
Failed pie crust #1
So the goal was to make 2 apple pies that day. We ended up with 1 and it took the entire night. JM finally finished his pie at 11:30pm. After we made up I was finally able to tell him it was DELISH! He told me later he wasn't about to ask me what I thought about it until we were over whatever we were over. Ahh, I love marriage and I loved that I married a man who can make a good pie...a pie I would eat no less..not too sweet but oh so tart and good and flaky.

Thanks for being candid about things that we all experience as married couples. I´m glad it all worked out in the end. The pie looks great. Makes me hungry for one. JM looks great. He and dad could be twins with their bike garb.
