Last weekend Jude experienced his first haircut. We took him to Charlie's Barber Shop in Los Alamitos. This is the same barber who has cut my dad's hair for about 40 years! It was special for Grandpa to share this with Jude. My sentimental father has often talked about his father (my Grandpa Mendoza) taking Ronnie (my brother) for a haircut every month. It was their little tradition.
Our Jude was not a happy camper. He screamed bloody murder for most of the time. I even let him hold a sucker but he could care less about it. Thankfully Charlie had experienced this before and was great with him.
I have to explain the pink pacifier. So, the company Born Free makes girley colored pacifiers and boy colored pacifiers. Jude needed some new ones and the only colors Target had were a pack of 2 yellow/orange and purple/pink. I bought em. I thought...well, he could used the pink paci for when he goes to bed, no one will see that. We only give him a paci when he sleeps anyways so no biggie. The yellow/orange one could be if we really need it in public like the church nursery or in this case...at the barber shop. Before we left for the barber I could not find the yellow/orange paci. It was gone. So, my handsome little man had a pink paci in his mouth. Whateves. My boy is secure in his manhood. Oh, by the way, I found the yellow paci that night. Of course, right.
Grandpa wiped his tears and treated Jude to his first snip.
Charlie gave Jude a little gel and 50's comb over. He looks like a little man. Kinda cute don't ya think?

What a precious memory! Jude's haircut straight out of Pleasantville.
Mad I absolutely love your 'family documenting' skills. I love your witty writing and your effort put into these blogs will help your aging husband, with a fleeting memory, hold on to wonderful moments like these.
Love you,
JM
So handsome!
I cry at the barber also. I weep how little time it takes to cut whatever is left. Next time I will try the pink pacifier trick.
