In 2008 my journey to becoming a doula began. After 9 weeks of course work, tests and certifications in CPR and Neo-Natal Resuscitation, I attended my first birth in March of 2009. I was 4 months pregnant with Jude. A couple weeks ago I completed my 12th and final birth for my CPSS (Certified Perinatal Support Specialist)/Doula certification. I'm done. It took me a while, but I'm done. Praise.
Jude turned 4 this summer.....you do the math.
After finishing my 12th birth (I had been up for 30 hours) I came home to this. My hubby, so sweet, thoughtful and utterly proud of his wifey. I felt celebrated.
I still have some paper work and reports to complete as well as renewing my CPR certification (it's been such a long process, it expired on me!) but that shouldn't take too long. So grateful for the support of my little family and my folks during this process. And, thanks be to God for giving me the strength to accomplish this while being a busy wife and mama. Also, He always worked out childcare for my kids either with my mom or JM just perfectly.
I am so thankful to be a support to Mamas and Papas during this sacred time we call birth. It really is an honor to share in this experience with parents and to witness the birth of their little miracle.
