Homeschooling part #2 and Sim is 9 months!!

My Baby Boy...this is his 9 month photo but I'm about to take his 10 month photo on Friday...He doesn't need the bumbo chair any more. This boy is now sitting up, army crawling and likes to eat food. Tonight he had tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado and a little gluten free pasta. Yes, he noshes on all of this with his one teeny tooth that popped out this week.

His eyes....I know. He mesmerizes us with those eyes.

It hurts me that he's growing so fast and approaching his first Birthday. Sniff Sniff.  I love this baby stage. He is so sweet and so charming. We are having lots of laughs with this little lovey.

More home school news....We've been spending a lot of time on the Civil War and specifically Abraham Lincoln. I myself am enjoying teaching this period of history. I'm learning it all over again and discovering things I didn't know (or don't remember) before.
These are the kid's little writing assignment on Abe and his Stove top hat.
Gabriella's and Jude's
My girl, she's becoming a savvy little writer. She likes to type  on the computer too...although sometimes gets frustrated with the technology part of it and needs help with the margins, etc. Like Mama like daughter.
Jude is learning to read and write before my eyes. It's wonderful to witness this.

Some Nature Study Note Book entries.
Gabriella's book. The kid loves detail.

Jude's notebook. He's doing so well and I think is inspired by Sis' work.
My Ansel's Nature Journal
He'd rather go collect the acorns than draw them....whatevs
Patricia Polacco....Google her, Google her works, check her books out at the library...Adults, please do this for your self and your children. Her books are real, life, stories. Touching. Moving. I read them to the kids. I could hardly get through this one....A sweet story during the time of the Civil War.
....and I could not get through this one....JM had to finish the last 2 pages for me. Beautiful.
For a couple weeks Ansel and I (and Papa) read this book "My Blue Boat"
A classic, with beautiful illustrations and simple content, that any kid would enjoy.

We did a few activities that coincided with " My Blue Boat". This was one of the activities JM did with Ansel. The inspiration was the above picture in the book. Not only did they talk about what a light house is, but recreated it using geometric shapes.

This week we went with Gabriella's former Co-op group  to Riley Farms in Yucaipa Ca. Riley Farms offers History experiences and adventures as well as reenactments (Civil War, Gold Rush, Colonial times, Revolutionary war etc.). They also have a pumpkin patch, orchards where you can pick apples, pears, among other things. We participated in the Gold Rush experience. We will be learning about the California Gold Rush this year as part of California History.

The kids learned about the Miner's life, panned for Gold, did old time chores, weighed their gold, went in a mine and got all muddy! Great fun.

She and her buddies were rich women!
 Eureka I found some!
 weighing his gold

Jude's first taste of Beef Jerky, a Miner's ration.
Silly faces. Gabriella was so happy to be with her school buddies again.

 Our group
This field trip was for the big kids so Ansel spent the night with Grandma. He had a good time but we missed him.
We really had a lot of fun and I'm thankful we are able to do these types of field trips with friends. We're hoping to do a California mission earlier next year.

Ok...I leave this blog post with this....I have two C.S Lewis quotes up on my wall. This is one of them and is a wonderful reminder to me each day.
