November Days at Home and Elsewhere

When we got back from our  South West trip I planned to jump into California History. We took a detour though when Jude said " Mom, I want to learn more about The National Parks!" The beauty of Home education..."Sure son, we can do that." We focused on Zion and The Grand Canyon and learned about the states Utah and Arizona.

Here is a Zion art project done with chalk and oil pastels focusing on foreground and background. Don't you just love the red rock and sunsets?

Been going through a Curriculum called Before Five in a Row with Ansel.
The story book we focused on for 2 weeks was Blueberries for Sal. Love Robert McCloskey's books. Check him out at the library if you haven't. His art work is brilliant.

I've been so grateful to have JM home two mornings a week. With his flexible schedule he is able to do  some Pre-school with Ansel while I teach the big kids. Ansel made Blueberry Pie with Papa.

We had some fun Nature Studies at the Fullerton Arboretum last week.
The Dessert

Look what I found mom!

This kid loves being outside.

Off to the little brook and forest

Boo California Drought!! The brook was bone dry!

For the past couple of months Ansel and I have been attending a pre-school class  called Kindergym through Fullerton College. It's been so wonderful for Ansel and it's something we can do together, just the two of us. Papa took him once too. The other three stay at home when JM is home on his lunch break.

Mrs. Dodgen is a wonderful and well seasoned teacher of 30 years. She does songs, rhymes, colors, and physical activities with the kids.

For Ansel's last class all the kids came with us.

Yea!

We've been learning about the different parts of the orchestra this semester....string instruments, woodwinds, brass, etc. We were fortunate to attend a concert at Biola last week and heard some beautiful music!! Every year the Biola symphony performs a special concert for youth. We sat in the front row! So fun!

Speaking of music, our Jude started violin in October! He's doing so well and is picking it up quickly. Here he is playing his first song with his bow.

And speaking of music again...our dear neighbor Sherry is moving this month and gave our kids a brand new keyboard that she had. They are having a lot of fun with this, even Sim!

On another note....I had to post this picture cause they are cute sillies.

"My Three Sons"
....cue the music and the tapping foot.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Last week we painted a still life Thanksgiving piece using water colors.

They are always up for painting.

We have a standing baby who cruises and gets into everything!
His little thighs!

One of my very favorite quotes regarding children.....Love
