Davy Jones
1945-2012
I know what you're thinking.. What is this blog? No pictures of the kids or JM?..the garden?..crafts? Nope. This blog is about Davy, my teen-age heart throb. You may wonder "Wait, Mad didn't grow up in the 60's? Why would Davy Jones of the Monkees be her teen-aged heart throb?" Well, in 1986 the Monkees had a come back. They entered into the scene again celebrating their Monkees 20th reunion. They made quite a stir. They were in their early 40's, sold out arenas and could still rock. I was 13 and crazy about them. I blame my brother...I think he showed me an episode of the Monkees in 1986 and I was hooked....I taped all the episodes that were on syndication with Nickelodeon, bought the cassette tapes with my babysitting money (which I still have, and may or may not have had a Dance Party on our bed with my 3 children) went to 4 Monkees concerts and even stood in line to meet Davy Jones at his book signing...He was around 41 or so at the time and still 5'3. Just my size.
A little over a month ago on leap year, February 29, 2012, we lost the Manchester Cowboy as they called him. He died of a massive heart attack at the age of 66. (Ironically he was a vegetarian but I read that the autopsy reported he had severe blockage in his arteries...what was he eating? You knew I'd be thinking this.) My brother of all people texted me the bad news that morning. Sad. Just sad. He was so young. A couple weeks went by and I started reading articles about him and his family, his career, his death etc. Sweet John-Mark even watched a Biography special about him with me. It brought back a lot of memories of when I was a kid. Lots. "I need to blog about this." I told John-Mark. I felt like I lost someone I knew. I guess the 14 year old inside of me wanted to grieve and say good bye. What a fun and silly time in my life. I loved the Monkees so much that one day my brother said "I'll bet you 100$ that you won't like the Monkees the way you do when you're 21 years old."" YES I WILL RONNIE!!, yes I will, I'll always love them!!!" I think he's still waiting for his 100 dollars. Maybe I don't luvvv the Monkees as I did when I was 14 but I still enjoy their music and their comedic TV show....it's been nice to be re-acquainted with it after all these years. So into my only boxes and closets at my parents house I went. I found lots of old Monkee and Davy treasure. Here are some photos taken by me and some others ( I'd site you and give you credit if I knew your name) to say good bye to Davy.
So long Day Dream Believer.......

Best Christmas Present EVERRRR!
One Christmas my brother bought this photo for me, only it was framed and was signed by guys.
See it on the wall behind me. It went nice with the flowered wallpaper huh.
I was Davy's number #1 fan
Singing Cuddly Toy
Incidentally, In 1987, my friend Michelle and I competed in a Monkees Lip Sync contest (singing Cuddly Toy) at the Buena Park Mall. Such a die hard, I'm telling you. The Semi Finals were on Thursday...which we made...and the Finals were on Saturday in front of the entire mall..., which we came in 2nd place. Not bad for a couple of 14 year old kids. I choreographed the whole thing and dragged my poor friend Michelle to do this with me. Glad we're still friends to this day. It payed off...we got tickets to the Monkees concert. Our Moms and Dads took us. Still can't believe we pulled that off and were brave enough to do it. Wish I had a photo. I do still have the vhs of the entire competition. Rad.
Meeting Davy Jones in 1988
Here are some when my friend Lisa and I met Davy in March of 1988. We were elated that we were getting to meet him. I brought him Aloe Vera juice. See him looking at the bottle. In 1987 I read an article in Vegetarian Times that stated Davy drank aloe vera juice for energy and wellness. What a nerd I was...so cute though. (Oh yah, can you believe how frizzy my hair...puberty at it's finest.)
My mom and dad were the best to take me and my friend Lisa
Star struck
The article I saved from Vegetarian Times
One of my favs of Davy. What a great image. What a great face.
This is a recent one...probably in the last few years.
RIP Davy.....
