Monkee-ing Around

Remember my post last April....about  Davy Jones, the Manchester Cowboy who passed away unexpectedly in February. Sad.  Since Davy's death I dug out some old memorabilia from boxes at my parents house...found some old pictures, a copy of Davy's biography that he signed for me (which I read a again this  past week) and played their music once more. The kids love the music too and I catch JM singing Monkees tunes once in a while while he's washing dishes. (They are pretty catching tunes ya know.) 

After High School, I slowly got over my Monkees phase (obsession). Don't get me wrong, I still  loved the music, just didn't plaster my walls with pictures of Davy and the guys. Well, I read this past summer that The Monkees (The remaining Monkees..Micky, Peter and Mike) were "coming to our town"...The Greek Theater in Hollywood. This is the first time Mike has toured with the band since 1997. I really wanted to go....felt like I needed to "pay my respects" so to speak,  now that Davy is no longer with us. I wondered if they would have some kind of tribute to Davy seeing that this would be the first concert tour since his death. JM agreed to be my date and so we went. Yay. I saw the Monkees in concert in 87, 88 and 89....and in 2012,  24 years later. Brought back a lot of memories boy.

Mike should have wore his wool hate...it was freeeezing, and the guy is bald.

So great to hear all the good Mike Nesmith tunes...."What am I Doing Hangin Round", "Papa Jeans Blues", "You Just May Be the One", "Daily Nightly"....

They showed some wonderful vintage Monkees footage during the concert and did a couple tributes to Davy that were really special.

I'm a Believer. Eat your heart out Shrek!

So much fun to be there!! I'm so glad we went. I wouldn't doubt that this will be the last time the Monkees tour. I was pretty nostalgic and John-Mark had a great time singing the tunes with me. (See honey, aren't you glad you listened to all those Monkee songs over and over and over......)
