A Purposeful Christmas

We were determined to make this Christmas focused on Jesus, an advent celebration, time with family, less commercial, less busy and more relaxing.

We've been having some wonderful weekends of painting, crafting, decorating, baking, Charlie Browning, and adventing.

The kids and I made chocolate truffles. Vegan, gluten free, zero flour, zero refined sugar
To die.

A happy ingredient

My little helper

Yum...we've made 2 more batches since.
Papa loved em too.

Recipe
2/3 cup mashed dates
1 cup raw cashew pieces (finely chopped)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup of cocoa powder
1 1/2tablespoon of coconut oil added.

Use food processor  mashing/chopping up the cashews and the dates.
Process them separately or you'll end up with an over-processed mess

In a large bowl mix finely chopped cashews, cinnamon and cocoa powder
Add dates and coconut oil.
Using your hands, mix all ingredients very well until they turn into a big, slightly sticky blob.

I refrigerated the mixture for half an hour and then rolled it into balls, then rolled those balls in unsweetened shredded coconut

I adapted this recipe from

Family time by our Christmas tree.

Crafts!
My mom's friend Joan gave us this little wooden nativity set to paint

She is so artistic....she told me a while ago she wants to major in art and minor in Bible when she gets to college. We were talking about college one day... she asked if you could major in GOD. I told her it's called majoring in Theology.  Well mom, what did Papa major in.....majored in Art and minored in Bible I said. She said, "YOU CAN MAJOR IN ART!!!! THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO DO!!!. So..there you go. Sounds like a girl who's taking after her Papa. She asked "Mom, do you know any colleges where I can major in art and minor in Bible"....I told her Wheaton College in Illinois is a great school...haaa. She's got to branch out folks.

This boy will be a music major....just calling it right now. He's already said he wants to be a conductor. I believe him.

Painting snowflake ornaments

Got a lot of work to do.

Celebrating Advent in lots of ways this year. We have our advent box with little scriptures and treat but also are doing a church advent program at home. Our church had a children's advent program early in December. The kids took a packet of things home to color and display in their homes. We are not only learning about Jesus and His birth on Christmas Day but His gift of salvation which we see in both the Old and New Testaments. There are things to say and hand movements and sound effects to learn. Fun.

Papa has it down too. :)
